The bright sheet of light before your eyes slowly grows features, hard features flowing in lines of purpose around you, wires and cables connecting unknown devices together throughout the room. A single floating droid hovers over you, it's many thin manipulator arms busy.
Busy doing what?
You attempt to move your head to get a better view at what it is doing, but your body doesn't respond.
Glancing around, you look straight up at what looks to be a scene painted on the ceiling of a mostly mechanical body splayed open, wires and hoses connected deep inside the chest of the unfortunate soul who was being integrated with the biomechanical processes by a hovering medical droid.
Wait.
No. No no no.
That isn't a painting.
The ceiling is mirror finished...
"Disengaging braincase from sensory input" rings the cold voice again.
The world goes dark once again, left alone with your thoughts, deafeningly loud against the oppressive silence.
Your realization of your fate sinks in. Something happened. You're one of them now.
"Yes, final process boot initiated while they were in REM at 0200 hours"
That cold voice again.
Your eyes opened when you asked them to. Well, that's a good start. You look around the room to find a lady clad in pink standing over you, smiling.
"Welcome Back!" A little too cheerful a sound there, but a nice change from the surgical feel of the room around you.
"We found you floating, your shuttle was attacked. You were the only survivor. I am so sorry."
That sounded genuine. Wait.
'Only Survivor' is what she said.
Then being here is pointless. What are you supposed to do in such a colony if you are alone?
"The ship's records indicate that they were en route to apply for a spot on the Genesis, ma'am"
The metallic voice isn't as grating as it first was.
"The Genesis isn't even under construction yet though. We are still researching the effects of the wormhole! Well, either way, you are safe now. Try not to move, it will take time to integrate into this form. And depending on how well you do so, you might be able to help me..."
The lady in pink looked up at the floating medical droid, pausing to take in the serial number on it's chassis.
"115, put them under until the worst of the integration is finished, please. And notify me when the process is complete."
You awaken in a different room. Metal walls, sparse furniture, small red lights illuminating the main pathway to the door.
If it weren't for the artificial gravity, you would swear you were back on your ship.
But you knew where you were. The memories of the cold surgical room were too loud in your head to forget them.
As you sit up, the wall flares into life, images quickly coming into focus on the screen.
'Colony 3037 Newscast' it read.
Before you could read any of the information being displayed, a figure appears on the screen.
The Pink Lady.
"Good morning! When you figure out how to move, please come see me at the Manor Industries office. I want to talk to you about something I think you will be interested in."
The meeting is long, and your head is reeling from the massive amount of information she so casually gave you like it was common knowledge.
The wormholes they were stationed near was stable. Stable!
Alot of science was thrown at you, and you could feel your mind tapping into knowledge you are certain you didn't have before.
If you utilize FTL travel through the wormhole, you can transport to different dimensions.
They have found many, but two in particular are perfectly suited for human life.
One, a world where magic is real, and society lives as though straight from a medieval fantasy book.
The other, a seemingly normal world, barely different from our past society, 2k20 era.
Either would be a great fit to send humanity through on the Genesis seed ships, but there is one major problem that prevents them from beginning the construction of the ship:
Humans can't survive the rigors of dimensional rift travel.
This is where you come into her plans. There are several other androids and cyborgs, decommissioned solder droids, ex-companion droids, persocoms, and other sentient robotic humanoids who have signed up to go through and scout the new dimensions, and she would like you to join them.
You can integrate and research in whatever ways you find suitable. As long as they get the info, she doesn't seem to care how it is collected.
You could even decide to go rogue, you realize, and just abandon the mission to just start a new life there.
Should you choose to accept, you would be out on the next shuttle out.
